Benedictine Monastery SANT'ANNA in Bastia Umbra (Perugia)
25 posti letto

Description
The foundation of the monastery of Sant'Anna dates back to December 1602, when Pope Clement VIII granted the Benedictine nuns of San Paolo delle Abbadesse permission to return to Bastia Umbra, after they had been forced to take refuge in the bishopric of Assisi since 1431, during the conflicts between Perugia and Assisi. Subsequently, the inhabitants of Bastia wanted the nuns back in the city, so the Pope, through Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini, granted the ancient Baglioni fortress to the municipality, with the obligation to build a church and a cloistered convent for women to house the community of San Paolo delle Abbadesse.
