Description
The Casa di Santa Maria in Formazza aims to be a welcoming place for all those in need of rest, serenity, silence, and peace. It is a place where boys and girls, young people, men and women can find comfort and relief, where they can pause in their lives to reflect and learn, to be together, to pray.
The house is located 1,260 meters above sea level. The hamlet of San Michele is now home to the Formazza Cross-Country Skiing Center, with a 12 km loop trail that runs along the entire flat part of the valley from the hamlet of Ponte to Fondovalle.
The Formazza Valley is one of the most beautiful Alpine valleys. The name "Formazza Valley" refers to the upper catchment area of the Toce River, a tributary of Lake Maggiore, from the watershed marking the border between Switzerland and Italy to the Casse Gorges. This high mountain area is part of the province of Verbania and, more specifically, encompasses the three valleys draining the Toce: the Ossola. The municipality of Formazza is the largest in the province.
The Casa di Santa Maria in Formazza relies on a team of volunteers managed by the ANSPI Consolazione e Letizia Association. The volunteers who collaborate on the various initiatives organized by the Casa come from groups active within the Congregation of the Legionaries of Christ and Regnum Christi, as well as from other organizations aligned with the goals and values specified in the Consolazione e Letizia Association's bylaws.
