CHATEAU VERDUN Holiday House in Saint Oyen (Aosta)
The Casa Per Ferie Chateau Verdun is a house open to all, designed to accommodate pilgrims, travelers and simple tourists interested in enjoying the quiet and find themselves in the most authentic spirit of the message of St. Bernard. Owned by the Diocese of Aosta, the house offers the possibility of spending a period of rest and spiritual comfort in a relaxing environment like Sant-Oyen. The place is frequented by parishes, families, organized groups or individuals.
Chateu-Verdun, at 1350 m altitude, was a strong house, located in the middle of the greenery, halfway between Aosta and the Gran San Bernardo pass (Mongiove).
From the eleventh century the house, with adjacent land, has always been at the service of the Great St. Bernard Hospice, both as a stop for travelers and mules, and as a farm for the supply of the Hospice itself.
Mission accomplished faithfully for nine centuries, that is until modern times, in the spirit of "hospitality" that characterizes the Canons of the Great St. Bernard. Since 2002, a part of the Cascina has been transformed into a cloistered Benedictine monastery. Ability to participate in their functions.
