SAN MARCO Convent (Boccone del Povero) in Palermo
25 posti letto

Description
An ancient medieval convent in the heart of the city (just a few dozen meters from the Norman Cathedral and the main monuments), the religious complex has survived to this day thanks to the courage and tenacity of Blessed Father Giacomo Cusmano of Palermo, who, in 1873, was entrusted with it by Archbishop Michelangelo Celesia to house the "Casa del Povero" (House of the Poor). Father Giacomo Cusmano, with considerable difficulty, managed to prevent the demolition of the church and oratory by demonstrating to the institutions, which had other plans for the area, the importance of the historical and artistic value of the two monuments.
Even today, the entire religious complex is managed by the Congregation of the Boccone del Povero, which, along with its traditional charitable works for the city's poor, has now opened the fully renovated facility to welcome tourists, pilgrims, and groups. Those who use its hospitality services also finance the numerous social projects carried out by the nuns and volunteers.
Within 200 meters: church, bus stop, subway, train station, ATM, bar/restaurant, supermarket, pharmacy, residential area. Hospital within 1 km.
Evening time restrictions.
By provisions of the Ministry of Tourism, the facility is exempt from the National Identification Code as it does not charge fees but accepts donations to the management body.
