The Congregation of the Franciscan School Sisters of Christ the King was founded in Maribor, Slovenia, on September 13, 1869, thanks to the commitment and willpower of Sister Margarita Pucher, the Congregation's first Superior General. Dedicated to the education and instruction of youth, the Institute expanded beyond Slovenia and Europe during the 20th century, reaching the United States, Egypt, and Latin America. The Congregation is currently present in Africa, Europe, North America, and South America.
At the beginning of the Second World War, due to the occupation, the General Curia of the Congregation was transferred from Maribor to Rome, where it remains today.
