This vocation takes on an even deeper meaning in the land that hosts it. **Syracuse is the city of the Madonna delle Lacrime, the place where the Virgin Mary chose to manifest the sign of her Tears.** Between August 29 and September 1, 1953, in a humble home in the city, a small painting depicting the Immaculate Heart of Mary shed human tears. From that event, a devotion was born that has reached the entire world and still today draws pilgrims from numerous countries to Syracuse, gathered around the **Basilica Santuario Madonna delle Lacrime** and the places of the Lacrimation.
