Description
The Monastery was founded in 1892 on the Itria hill overlooking Modica, although the Benedictine presence in this city dates back to the 16th century. The charism of the Benedictine Nuns of the Blessed Sacrament is founded on the Rule of Saint Benedict and on Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Reparation. It originated in France in 1653, thanks to Mother Méthilde de Bar who, seeing the abundance of sacrileges against the Eucharist, was inspired to graft the charism of Perpetual Adoration and Reparation onto the ancient Benedictine trunk.
The church is in neo-Gothic style with stained-glass windows depicting the life of Saint Benedict. Inside the monastery are valuable ancient paintings. Weekday Mass is at 7:30 a.m., and Sunday Mass is at 9:00 a.m. Vespers are at 6:00 p.m. Spiritual meetings, spiritual weekends for young people, and so on are regularly organized.
