Description

The farmhouse, housed within the Monumental Complex of Sant'Anna in Camprena – a former 15th-century Olivetan Benedictine Monastery – is just 6 km from Pienza, whose historic centre has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. The imposing yet simple structure, a place of great charm and profound spirituality, is located in the most beautiful countryside in the world: between the Val d'Orcia Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004 – and the Crete Senesi. The Refectory houses a splendid cycle of frescoes (1503) by Antonio Bazzi, known as Il Sodoma. Italian-American director Anthony Minghella chose Sant'Anna in Camprena to film some of the most famous scenes from his 9-time Academy Award-winning film “The English Patient.”

The farmhouse's rooms, which offer splendid views, are simply yet comfortably furnished. Some of them are the former monastery cells. The accommodations offer a variety of rooms and apartments with varying levels of comfort: from basic monastery cells with shared bathrooms to rooms with TVs, air conditioning, and exquisite furnishings.

The agriturismo has its own restaurant. One of the dining room walls features a huge 17th-century print depicting the Piccolomini family tree. Enea Silvio Piccolomini, a native of Pienza and a symbol of the Italian Renaissance, became Pope Pius II. The restaurant uses some of the farm's organic produce, including extra virgin olive oil and fine wines such as Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG. The cuisine is simple, yet meticulously prepared and flavorful, in keeping with Tuscan country tradition.

The farmhouse specializes in receiving groups and hosts various art courses every year: painting, drawing, photography, and music. The beautiful Church of Sant'Anna in Camprena hosts important classical music concerts during the summer.

Within 200 meters: church, bar/restaurant. 1-5 km: ATM, supermarket, residential area. 5-10 km: bus stop, pharmacy. Over 10 km: train station, hospital.
