Casa per Ferie SANTISSIMA ANNUNZIATA in Amelia (Terni)
50 posti letto

Description
It is certain that Saint Francis, during his wanderings through Umbria, passed through Amelia. In this city, he is remembered for the conversion of several sinful women. In the area known as the "Hill of Hell," some young friars founded the Convent of the Most Holy Annunciation of Michignano, and the first records of this settlement date back to 1373. The convent was one of the most important centers of the "Clareni," a group of Franciscans who sought to observe the Rule of Saint Francis more radically. Renovated by Angelo Petrignani, the convent passed to the Observants in 1567 and in 1745 became the site of a "Retreat," a community of friars who lived a more austere life. Numerous friars were formed in this "Retreat," some of whom distinguished themselves for their holiness of life, such as Brother Generoso Maria da Premosello (d. 1804) and Father Gabriele Maria Obletter (+ 1964).
Inside the convent, a permanent artistic nativity scene has been installed, created by Don Juan Marí Oliva of Barcelona in 1965. A rare example of traditional Spanish craftsmanship, it dramatizes the most important moments in Christ's life, from birth to death. The Planetarium, located near the convent, is also open to visitors. A Fraternity currently resides there, providing parish services and a hospital chaplaincy, and runs the Spiritual Home attached to the convent.
